LiteOn LTR-32123S Review

LiteOn has stormed the market in 2001 with great quality drives at affordable price. In many ways LiteOn was able to compete with world's best known brand Plextor. For the year 2002 LiteOn brought us a 32 speed writer and this writer was reviewed by CDRW Central.

Conclusion

LiteOn's LTR32123S is a nice CD-RW Recorder, but it's not as fast as the Yamaha CRW3200 CD-RW Recorder when it comes to writing discs, here we expected more of a time difference. Even so, the LiteOn LTR-32123S works well and does what it's designed to do, it's read speeds match that of other drives that can read at 40x as well.

We did some other tests with the LiteOn LTR-32123S, like making backups of SafeDisc 1 and SafeDisc 2 CD's, again LiteOn have produced a drive that can make working backups.

Writing tests with HighSpeed CD-RW Media from the likes of Teac, Yamaha, Ricoh, Plextor at 12x were better than expected, even with Packet Writing using InCD.

The drive had high seek times when run on our Win XP system than we would have liked, but hopefully LiteOn will address this issue soon.

Although the LiteOn 32x drive is not as fast as the Yamaha at 24x (due to the fact that LiteOn uses Z-CLV while Yamaha uses P-CAV), it handles both Safedisc 1 as well as Safedisc 2 as we can expect from LiteOn.
