MPAA and RIAA nab physical pirates

It
appears that the RIAA and the MPAA have made a small dent in the world of physical piracy. They have teamed up with New York's finest and and have seized some Dvd burners, pirated Dvd's and a few Audio Cd's. New York is not the center of the piracy world, but evidentally both orginizations seem to think this seizure will send a message to all individuals who are thinking about setting up shop in NYC.

Who knows
if this will mean anything in the long run, but it will be interesting to see what comes of it, if anything. It would also be interesting to see how these organizations will tackle individual users and backing up Copyrighted Material. Stay tuned.

According to the RIAA's press release, the seizure in the Bronx yielded "Seizures included 25 DVD burners, 54 CD burners, 1,148 DVD-R's, 5,250 CD-R's and various raw materials" and one arrest. Meanwhile, the Manhattan raid ended with the "seizure of 5,800 DVD-R's, 14,600 audio CDs and 1,700 music DVD-R's" and two arrests.

With physical goods piracy reaching alarming levels, the unified front of the music and movie industries and local law enforcement becomes all the more critical in combating this problem," said Brad Buckles, Executive Vice President, Anti-Piracy, RIAA. 'As always, we appreciate the hard work of all those in the New York City law enforcement community who helped to organize and execute this operation.
