Thanks to looser we know that Macrovision, developer of many copy-protection technologies such as SafeDisc, has signed a worldwide license with ARC International, a world leader in configurable System-on-Chip platform technologies.
ARC signed the license with Macrovision to purchase two applications, FLEXlm and SAMreport, to support its implementation of Electronic Licensing on four main operating platforms (Windows, Sun, Linux and Java):
FLEXlm, the 'Electronic License Manager" solution from Macrovision, allows network application users of FLEXlm embedded software to ensure that they are in compliance with the usage terms of their software license. Licenses can be updated and distributed electronically, providing developers with the means to enable key features and modules on a per client basis, without time-consuming software re-writes. FLEXlm has been purchased and incorporated by over 2,500 independent software vendors and supports over 40 operating system platforms. SAMreport allows users of FLEXlm embedded software to monitor usage by user and feature. |
ARC's processor technology can be found in applications such as cable and DSL modems, network routers, 3D graphics chips, cordless telephones and digital cameras. Read the complete press release here.
