Macrovision announces SafeDisc for Mac OS X

It seems that Macrovision is not afraid of the future. Did we not long ago report that Macrovision will also protect CDs under Linux, now they will also protect CDs for Mac OS X.

For PC users that want to make backups of their favorite CDs, SafeDisc has always been a pain in the ass, now also Mac OS X users may enjoy the good feeling of being able to make a backup of these CDs but probably on a Wintel platforum using CloneCD, because as far as I know there is no CloneCD -like software on Mac OS X.

``With over 100 million software CDs manufactured using SafeDisc, it's clear that our software-based copy protection solution is the market leader, and SafeCast is rapidly becoming the industry standard DRM solution for software as well,'' said Brian McPhail, vice president of the Consumer Software Division at Macrovision. ``SafeDisc and SafeCast feature the pre-eminent technologies for protecting the integrity of software products without inconveniencing development staffs or compromising the experience of consumers using legitimate content, and we are excited to make both products available for the Mac community.''

With its Unix-based foundation, Mac OS X features unprecedented power, stability, and open standard technologies that make it the most reliable, compatible and interoperable desktop operating system on the market,'' said Ron Okamoto, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. ``Macrovision's SafeDisc and SafeCast for Mac OS X enable Mac ISVs to easily apply its anti-copy, anti-hacking, and DRM technologies to their applications and we are delighted to receive their commitment to our platform.''
