Maxell Sees Blank CD-R Price Increase

Da_Taxman used our newssubmit to tell us that some time ago we reported that cdr prices will increase. well here's the first news about it. Thanx to Da_Taxman

Maxell Corporation of America has said that it has been receiving price increases from Taiwanese manufacturers on CD-R blank media of about 30% and is expecting further increases in coming months.

According to Don Patrican, executive vice president of Maxell, the increases have come as a result of higher manufacturing and material costs and more vigorous enforcement of royalty agreements.

"Some manufacturers have reached agreement with the patent holders on royalties, and some are still in negotiations. We believe that once the royalties have been finalized, manufacturers will reflect them in their pricing strategies," Patrican said.

Patrican added that he doesn't believe increased CD-R prices represent bad news. Rather they will help stabilize the industry and the marketplace.

``I see no evidence that bringing media prices into line with reality is hurting demand. Also, the reduction in the number of suppliers in the category through manufacturer consolidation means retailers can offer stronger branded solutions to end users,'' Patrican concluded.

When one leads, the others follow...or at least it seems this way when it comes to CD-R prices.
Let's just hope not all brands will increase their price....
