GristyMcFisty used our news submit to tell us that MediaTek, a
fabless optical storage chip research and development company, has introduced the MT1389 their latest IC solution. This is
a third generation product based on the .18 micron process technology
and is designed for the DVD player market. It features among other things, a new
patent-pending, progressive scan algorithm called Media Direct De-interlacing or
MDDI for improved viewing of movie discs and has direct DivX MPEG4
support.
MediaTek, a major Taiwan-based optical storage chip design firm, today introduced its third-generation integrated DVD player chip, which it claims to be the world's first RF-integrated DVD system-on-chip (SoC) solution supporting the DivX Pro MPEG-4 video format. The new chip, the MT1389, supports playback of DivX video including version V3.11, V4.x and V5.x. It also delivers MediaTek's patent-pending scan algorithm, the MDDi (media direct de-interlacing) technology. The new scan technology uses an intelligent link between MPEG decoder and embedded progressive scan processor to reproduce most accurate pictures from DVD movie discs. DVD players that contain the MDDi technology can be identified from the MDDi logo on the product.

The MT1389 integrates six 12-bit, 108MHz
video DAC (digital-to-analog converter) to provide end users a high video
quality that can only been seen from high-end DVD players nowadays, the
company said. The new chip is manufactured with a 0.18-micron process, with
mass production already started, the company said.In addition to
certification of Home Theater Profile by DivX Networks, the chip supports
other features like GMC (global motion compensation, one-point), Q-pel and
post-processing from the DivX Pro codec. The MT1389 is also capable of the
latest Divx DRM (digital right management) system that enables the on-line
movie purchase, according to the
company. |
