MediaTek revenues down 18.8% on-month in January

Mediatek the company that
produces optical drive chipsets for many of the worlds optical drive
manufacturers such as LiteON has recorded a 28.1% increase in revenues
for the year. While the increase on year is good for the company has also
noted a 18.8% drop on revenues for the month of
January.

Sources close to the
ground estimate that Mediatek's first quarter results could reveal a further 20%
slide in revenues.

MediaTek
recorded revenues of NT$3.4 billion (US$120.5 million) in January 2006, up
28.1% on-year, but down 18.8% on-month, according to a February 10 company
filing with the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TSE).

Market sources estimated that MediaTek's
revenues for the first quarter of this year are likely to slip 20%
sequentially from the NT$14.7 billion it posted in the fourth quarter of
2005 due to seasonal factors.
