Memorex announces DVD+RW/+R super combo drive

Memorex announced today that they have partnered with Ricoh to deliver a high speed seven-in-one drive. It functions as a DVD/CD player but supports DVD+RW, DVD+R, DVD-ROM, CD-RW, CD-R and CD-ROM

The Memorex DVD+RW/+R Super Combo Drive lets users record up to 4.7 gigabytes of video, data, photo or audio files in less than 30 minutes on DVD+R and rewritable DVD+RW media. The drive also writes to CD-R and high-speed CD-RW media. The DVD+RW/+R format allows changes and additions to DVD+RW video discs created by users without rewriting the entire disc, especially helpful for editing home movies.

"With mass confusion regarding the different optical media technologies on the market, consumers deserve a complete drive solution," said Michael Golacinski, president and COO of Memorex. "Our new DVD+RW/+R drive represents the synergy between Ricoh as a premier developer of 'plus' technology, our expanding drive business, and our industry-leading blank media. Working with Ricoh to deliver an internal drive that is compatible with the new DVD 'plus' technology, as well as other widely used CD formats, is a great milestone for both of our companies and the industry as a whole."

To perfect DVD and CD writing, Ricoh has created two technologies that are both embedded within the Memorex DVD+RW/+R Super Combo Drive. Ricoh's Lossless Linking and JustLink® technologies prevent "buffer underrun errors" that occur with DVD and CD-R/RW writing, respectively.

The drive includes Ahead Nero 5.5.8.5, Cyberlink's PowerDVD and some other utils. It is already available now at a (suggested) retail price of $379.99. Read the complete press release here.
