Memory-Tech releases HD DVD-ROM measurement system

Memory-Tech has
developed a new measurement system
for HD DVD for mass-production lines
at media manufacturers. Due to be available during second half of June
2005, they hope to help promote the HD DVD format by distributing
the disc measurement system.

The new
measurement system supports HD DVD-ROM Book 1.1 specifications for
playback-only media. The system can measure the following items, for
example: PRSNR, SbER index for HD DVD disc formats, modulation depths,
jitters of signals within a lead-in area, the thickness of middle layers
bonded between two disc substrates, and tracking error signal levels. The
system is also capable of decoding burst cutting area (BCA) data and
measuring PI errors.

The measurement system can store a maximum of
four HD DVD players, and operate them simultaneously. To enable intuitive
measurement, the system has capabilities of determining whether an object
is "a fine product" or "an inferior product" by matching its measurement
results with preset parameters, and mapping the precise location of
defects on the disc, for example.
