Midbar, the company behind the 'famous' copy protection Cactus DataShield has announced it is selected to deliver the first copy protected audio CD's in Japan.
This is pretty intresting news because while they release their technology in Japan they also take a risk. Many technology companies are located over there, so it will probably also be easier for them to get a Cactus DataShield protected CD and find a way to bypass the protection.
``We expect to see many more releases in Japan of CDs using the Cactus Data Shield (CDS) technology throughout the first six months of the year with some of the top labels and manufacturers in the country,'' said Ran Alcalay CEO of Midbar. |

Select releases will be protected by the new CDS-200.0.4, unveiled at the end of last January at Midem 2002, and will be identified as such on the outside of the CD casing with a special label. To date, in excess of 10-million CDS protected CDs have been released into the world market.
At least they have the decency to put labels on the CDs to tell the people that the CDs are limited in use because of their copy protection.
