Mitsumi announces DR 6800 TE CD-RW/DVD-ROM combo drive

Mitsumi Europe has send us a press release
announcing a combo drive. The Mitsumi DR 6800 TE is a CD-RW/DVD-ROM (read both
DVD+R(W) and DVD-R(W)) combo drive with the following features:

Mitsumi DR 6800 TE :

The new combo drive writes
CD-Rs 48 x and CD-RWs 24 x. CDs are also read at 48 x while DVD are read
at up to 16 x. A 2 Mbyte buffer as well as a high-performance
Buffer-Underrun-Prevention-System guarantee uninterrupted writing
processes. The drive is connected via the computer's E-DIE/ATAPI interface
and is compatible to Win-dows 98SE, ME, 2000 and XP.

The estimated street price of the drive will be 79
EUROs. According to Mitsumi this price is justified since it's about the half of
a DVD recorder, while it gives one the abilility to read DVD
discs.
