More CDs pirated than sold in the UK this year

According to an article on the Herald Sun, there will be more pirated than sold CDs available in the United Kingdom, this according to a report of the IFPI.

Computer technology is being blamed as more fans download their favourite music from the Internet or burn copies of friends' CDs rather than buy new from record shops.

Last year saw 222 million legitimate CD album sales in Britain, compared with 184 million units of "unauthorised and pirated" music, the British Phonographic Industry said.
