recently reported that "Lite-On IT
lands OEM orders for 16x DVD burners from NEC". This intriguing
news article sparked some hot debates and speculation on our
discussion forum. And although this was quite an interesting topic,
CDFreaks.com has discovered that this rumor is simply not true. We have received
an official statement from Eiich Ichikawa, who
is the General Manager of Computer Storage Product at NEC. According
to Mr. Ichikawa, "There is no current agreement with LiteON to build NEC DVDRW
drive." Hopefully, this will put to rest any current rumors regarding an NEC and
LiteOn manufacturing agreement.
