NEC is amongst the most popular brands when it
comes to DVD recorders an our NEC forum
is one of the most crowded on our boards. The NEC community is pretty strong
mainly because there is a huge amount of unofficial firmwares released that
improve writing quality and add other features such as bitsetting support. Most
NEC owners would also like to use their NEC drives for testing the writing
quality but unfortunately NEC drives do not support this feature. Media quality
tests which can be performed with a tool such as Nero CD/DVD Speed, Plextools and KProbe are counting e.g. the
number of PI and PIF errors (more information here ) and error reporting is currently supported by manufacturers such as Asus, Lite-On, Plextor, BenQ, Nu-Tech and Philips.
Forum member FastAssEG has now taken the initiative to start mailing NEC America's Research and Development department to convince them that many users would love to see an error reporting on their drive and of course the more users are sending them e-mails the more convincing it should be. Therefor we would like to make a call for all NEC users that would like error reporting on their drive to read this thread and start sending emails!
