It looks like double layer burners
in slim type format is on its way too because Dell's website unveils the
specifications of the NEC ND-6100A which support burning of 2.4x DVD+R DL. The
ND-6100A also supports an impressive 8x write speed for single layer DVD+R
which probably will be the max speed for slim type DVD
burners.
It will probably take some time
before you'll be able to get your Dell notebook delivered with this drive though
as not even NEC's half height double layer DVD burners are available yet. NEC
will probably release another drive (ND-6500A?) with similar specifications as
the ND-6100A but with added support for writing DVD-R/RW later too. More
