NEC's DVD±R/RW writer delayed again

The release of the ND-1100A DVD±R/RW writer has been postponed again. In October we reported that the release was delayed due to media testing from November to December 2002 but now NEC Sweden says it's not going to be available until spring 2003. There might also be a change of the model number to ND-1300A according to NEC Germany:

Is there a firmware update for the DVD burners Nd-1100/dlb and Nd-1100/dlr, used by Dell, which makes support of both standards (DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW) possible?

The models Nd-1100/dlb and Nd-1100/dlr, which Dell uses, support only the standard +R/+RW .

The NEC DVD burner Nd-1300a, which will be delivered starting from the first quarter 2003, supports both standards, DVD+R/RW and DVD-R/RW.

The building methods of the models are different. The report that a firmware update could add support of both standards and that it even would be offered on our homepage, is wrong.
