Napster, once the number one source for downloading (copyrighted) MP3 files is currently previewing their service that is set to be launched early 2002.

While still offering the core functions -- finding, sharing, and discovering digital music through the Napster community -- the new membership service will have an all-new look and feel and some cool new features for members and artists alike.
This new Napster will pay the artists that request to be paid for the filesharing on the Napster network. For this Napster has developed an own file format that wraps music files in a security format that defines how the file can be used.
Napster also announces it's own player, that is probably just developed to play their new file format songs. And the new Napster software features instant messaging software.
