GristyMcFisty used our news submit to tell us that the UK Napster online music store which launched last month has upped the amount of songs on its service from 500,000 to 700,000. This puts Napster ahead of its rivals with the amount of music tracks it has to offer to subscribers of its service. The Napster service has already got many of the major music labels for its store as well as Independent labels with the help of Association of Independent Music which covers independent labels and artists. Napster will obviously need this boost as competition to their service is on the way with the very popular Apple iTunes store which is due to launch on the 15 June and Sony's online Music store coming soon.

You can read the full story over at The Register. Napster service may have more songs but are they songs that the end user actually wants. There are still plenty of tracks that can't be bought on legal services and I think it would be better if companies would concentrate on getting them moved over to the legal music services as well as dropping prices of the tracks. I can tell everyone I have 100 Films on video doesn't mean that all 100 are any good they could all be rubbish that no one would want to see. Napster is using numbers to get their service sold when numbers aren't important if content isn't there.
