I don't know how this is for other music styles, but if you like house music, and you have a fast connection to the internet you might have downloaded some mixes of famous DJ's that are recorded from radio stations such as Radio 1 in the UK or Radio 538 in the Netherlands.
I don't know for sure how they do this, but one of the guys I know that did this used his Minidisc to record the music and dump it digitally on the harddisc and convert it to MP3.
Sony brings us now "Net MD", a new application interface. Which is an USB connection to connect PC and MD players but using a technology to protect copyrights. Of course this has no use with radio broadcasts, as I assume they will not be protected, but it could be used to protect other digital music sources.
The Net MD interface will include specifications that address secure data transfer through USB as well as authentication between PC and MD. Based on the security technologies that Net MD will employ, music data recorded from CDs or Net MD-compliant electronic music distribution services can be easily transferred from a PC to the authorized MD product. Because Net MD will accept current MiniDiscs and will be compatible with both ATRAC and ATRAC3 audio codecs, Net MD recordings can also be played on existing MD products. |
