As reported by Tech-On, Samsung announced a new series of low-density SATA II Solid State Drives (SSD) that are only 30% the size of 2.5-inch drive. This new series has been purposely created for low-cost PCs, and will be available in various capacities: 8GB, 16GB and 32GB.
According to the announcement, even with a lower capacity these drives will use the same high-performance SATA II controller of the top-line products, and the 16GB model is claimed to have a read speed of 90MBps and write speed of 45MBps, while the 8GB reads at 90MBps and writes at 25MBps.
There is no precise information about prices for the end-consumer, but the mass production should start next month.
