Today we have added a new review to our review database. This time we have not taken a look at a new CD or DVD recorder, but we've taken a look at software, or to be more precise, a new video codec by Ahead called Nero Digital. Ahead, creators of the famous Nero Burning Rom software, have recently released their video codec to the public. Nero Digital promises excellent video coding algorithms and full High Efficiency AAC (Advanced Audio Coding) in MPEG audio. Sounds great but how does the codec perform when compared to other popular video codecs such as DivX 5 and XViD? To find out we've taken a look at these three codecs (from a novice point-of-view) and compared them:
Nero Recode 2 is both a re-quantizing and transcoding application, and is a world's first in its class. Non-protected DVD-Video discs and DVD folders, including DVD-9 titles, can be re-authored in MPEG-2 by re-processing the MPEG streams. In addition, Nero Recode features the ability to convert DVD titles into Nero Digital, making it possible to fit an entire movie onto a CD. Some of the Nero Recode 2 features are:
