New technology by InterVideo reduces PC boot times

This news is not
directly related to CD's and DVD's in general but I thought it would be
interesting for a lot of people. As we all know, when you use your computer you
always have to wait for the PC to boot. Even when you only want to watch a movie
or listen to music, you can't get around the boot times of the computer (unless
of course, you leave it on all the time). Now a new technology called
InstantON has been introduced by
InterVideo, that can put an end to this:

Created by Fremont, Calif.-based InterVideo Inc., the technology
allows a PC's entertainment functions to turn on almost instantly '” in
less than 10 seconds, according to InterVideo '” because they run on
LinDVD, a pared-down version of the open-source Linux operating
system.

The Windows platform coexists with LinDVD and still
has to be launched for regular computing tasks such as word processing,
but users can forgo the longer Windows boot-up time if they only want to
watch movies, record TV shows or listen to music.

The technology is already used in a few products sold
in Asia, including a Sharp notebook in Japan and a computer by China-based
PC maker Legend Group Ltd.

This feature can be very useful I think because a lot of people
use their computer for listening to music and watching video's. I wonder if
other computer manufacturers will also support the technology in the future.
What's your opinion on this? Useful or useless?
