GristyMcFisty used our news submit to tell us about this interesting development over at Nvidia. They have now endowed the GeForce 6 with a little high definition video prowess. At the same time, taking up some of the load from our poor overworked CPU's with it's fancy programmable GPU. I can remember when Nvidia wasn't really thought of in the light of displaying video. More of a FPS component in games, kind of a raw horsepower board with decent image quality. Have they shaken that reputation?

"The personal computer has never been well-regarded for its abilities to deliver high-quality video playback," said Dan Vivoli, executive VP of marketing at nVidia. "The GeForce 6 Series with PureVideo technology finally merges the flexibility of the PC platform with the capabilities of high-end consumer electronics to give consumers more choice over how they experience video. |
Ok, I thought the PC did a darn good job of displaying video, but what do I know? ATI was the king of 2D display quality for years and maybe it still is when it comes to redering certain types of things. But, it's good news that Nvidia sees the handwriting on the wall, we need to use our PC's for more than fragging and looking at "gibs". My Geforce4 4600Ti is getting very long in the tooth, I was considering a defection to the ATI camp. But, this may make it a harder decision.
