OD2 becomes biggest online music service in the world.


The online music service OD2 has announced that it was adding nearly one million tracks to its service to become the biggest internet music service in the world. OD2 is boosting its soundtrack numbers from 350,000 to more than 1.3 Million tracks. The OD2 service will now bigger than Apple iTunes and the Napster music service both of which offer around 700,000 tracks each.  The increase in the number of tracks is expected to take place later in the year.

OD2 is a  Europe only service and provides music to services such as MyCokemusic, Virgin, HMV and MTV. The OD2 service was co-founded by Peter Gabriel and was recently bought by US Company Loudeye.

Online music service OD2 has said it is adding nearly one OD2 Logomillion new tracks to become the biggest internet music service in the world. The service, which was bought by US service Loudeye earlier this year, will boost its catalogue from 350,000 tracks to more than 1.3 million.

This would make it larger than Apple's iTunes or Napster, both of which have more than 700,000 songs. The OD2 catalogue increase is expected to take place later this year. OD2, which was co-founded by rock star Peter Gabriel, is a Europe-only service which licenses its technology to other sites including Mycokemusic, HMV, Virgin and MTV.
