Open Source DVD-Audio project in the works

-ix- used our news submit to tell us about something that may be fun for those that like to experiment with alpha software. Also, it will be of interest if you want to be able to help with a project that may produce a program capable of making DVD-Audio files for backup. This would be very useful for instance, if you had some vinyl you would like to preserve and want to see if DVD-Audio could reproduce the qualities of vinyl in a digital format.  The program is in a very early aplha stage at this point. According to the Hydrogen Audio Forum, it does work well at least for one member. Next on the list (among other things) is a GUI interface. To learn more about this interesting project, or perhaps even to take part in it - head on over to the Forum there and give the discussion a closer look, the author is active in the thread.

This project aims to provide audio enthusiasts with a set of free software tools to enable the authoring of DVD-Audio disks compliant with hardware DVD-Audio players, plus a software player for such disks.

One thing that's pretty cool, the project home page currently contains an in-progress "unofficial DVD-Audio specification" - which he is welcoming contributions to.
