Sony NEC Optiarc has just presented its first external DVD burner to the market. The DVD burner is marketed under the Sony brand and is made for mobile individuals and frequent travellers.
The press release states that the burner, the DRX-S70U-R, comes with a space-saving housing. It can't be ignored that the company's first external DVD burner is an absolute lightweight. With less than two centimeters in height and weighing 440 grams this burner should do fine for mobile consumers.
The DRX-S70U-R is Mac and Windows compatible and can process all standard CD and DVD formats. It writes DVD±R and DVD+RW blanks at 8x and achieves 6x speed when writing to DVD-RW.
Writing to DVD-RAMs goes at 5x, and DVD-R DLs goes at 4x. CDs go at 24x.
