The Californian company, Optima Technology, known for hardware and software storage solutions has
announced a one million dollar bounty for those who are able to hand over any
evidence that other companies are using technology patented by Optima. Currently
the company is mainly searching for violations of their U.S. Patent
5666531, which describes packet writing, a technology used to write CD-R/RW
discs. Their website states the following:
going into the fine print, any person and/or company who aids Optima by
providing us with credible documentation that clearly demonstrates proof
of a violation of our patent by another company, individual and/or entity
shall receive up to $1 million. The award could be split with other
parties if more than one party provides similar information about an
infringement on said patent party. Compensation will be based on the
amount of damages recovered from the infringing company, individual and/or
entity. We are targeting this reward to those hard working underpaid
people in the know. We are not promoting any illegal activities, but are
just reaching out to honest individuals with knowledge and
access."
The company has also announced on their website it will partner with the
Lava Group, an IP company
that is specialized in enforcing patents, trademarks and intellectual property.
Optima is looking for license fees of companies which are using the technology
as described in Patent 5666531 and could potentially gather many millions
of dollars from CD-R/RW software manufacturers who incorporate the patented
method and/or packet writing technology.
