OptoDisc to increase DVD recordable disc output to 40 million a month

OptoDisc, a Taiwanese DVD recordable
manufacturer has announced it will try to increase the production 5 times
in the coming four years. The currently relative unknown company is at the
moment able to ship 8 million discs. The three year old company wants to add
about 25 production lines a year to its current 20 production lines. The company
will only manufacture DVD recordable discs and will stay away from other
markets.

The
company expects the new development to raise recordable DVD disc capacity
by fivefold over the next four years from its current capacity of just
over eight million units per month, according to company vice president
Robert Chang.

The new headquarters is expected
to be completed in the fourth quarter of next year. With the new site,
Optodisc plans to invest about NT$12 billion to build one hundred DVD disc
production lines over the next four years, setting up about 25 lines each
year, Chang said.

Currently the company has 20 production lines, 12 are for
DVD+R and DVD-R discs and eight for rewritable DVD discs. Read more here. Discuss OptoDisc media in our Media Forum.
