Orbit II CD Duplicator

The Orbit II CD Duplicator is essentially a photocopier for CDs. It is a standalone unit that automatically copies the data on a CD just as a photocopier does for paper documents. The process for using the unit is simple: load up to 50 blank CD-R discs into the hopper on the top, insert the original and hit the 'Yes' button a couple of times, and the machine will do the rest.

A quick poke about the Orbit reveals a simple construction, which uses off-the-shelf CD reader and burner drives to reduce costs and some crafty engineering to load/unload discs. CDs are written at 16 speed, so it takes under five minutes to produce each CD, assuming they are written to full capacity. The unit includes 4Mb of onboard memory that serves as a buffer between CD reader and writer and increases overall reliability.

The Orbit II has the same tendancy to misbehave in all the ways a paper photocopier can, occassionally a CD will fail to burn correctly and be rejected into a different tray to the accepted discs. However, systems that are 100 percent reliable usually cost around twice the price of the Orbit.

The Orbit II systems is also available with a Panasonic A03 Drive, so it can write to both CDs and DVDs.

The Orbit II CD Duplicator: believe it or not, it's a photocopier - but pressing your backside against the top could prove difficult!!
