Panasonic has officially announced that it will launch the world's first 4x write-once Blu-ray discs, with a global introduction of its 25GB 4x BD-R discs. It also claims to be the first company to announce the introduction of 4x BD-R media. According to Panasonic, this media features precise and stable recording with a wide power margin to allow for writing speed from 1x to 4x and to provide high quality recording even with laser power fluctuations. The surface features a newly developed film forming technology to reduce error rate to 1/10th that of a conventional disc.
To date, Panasonic has delivered the world's first dual-layer BD-RE disc back in 2004 as well as the first to launch 50GB Dual Layer discs with 2x speed. It is also getting ready to deliver the first 4x 50GB BD-R, which it plans to launch in September this year.
