For anyone looking to record the unprotected standard definition output of cable, satellite, or terrestrial boxes, then CD Freaks has probably found the best value-for-money DVD recorder for you.
Despite its low price, the Philips DVDR3480 is a robust and well thought out machine that gives excellent quality recordings and burns extremely well on a wide variety of media types. It is also a good quality DVD player, with the ability to play MPEG1, MPEG2 and MPEG4 formats both on disc and via the front panel USB port.
