Philips to launch portable JackRabbit 4x DVD+R recorder in November


RexHunt used our news submit to tell us that
Philips will launch the JackRabbit 4 in November of 2003. This
new model in the portable storage JackRabbit series will be the
first to also support DVD burning. The drive supports 4x DVD+R and 2.4x DVD+RW
recording. The drive will write CD-Rs at 16x and CD-RWs at 10x and will have
different recording speeds when used trough the USB1.1
interface:


USB 2.0 connectivity is required for high
speed USB performance. USB 1.1 compatibility offers 4x CD-R, 4x CDRW, and
6x CD Read, and 1x DVD Read
The Jack Rabbit 4
can even be used as a standalone DVD disc playback device, connecting to a
TV or audio system with ease. To add to the convenience, the drive is
supplied with a remote control handset, giving home users and travelers
the same ease-of-use they would expect from a full-sized living room DVD
or CD player.

The drive can also be used as a photo viewer, enabling
the playback of both Picture CDs and JPEG collections on a PC or a TV,
either as slide shows or individually. For DVD movies as well as Audio CD/
MP3-CD playback, the Jack Rabbit 4 also handles 5.1 digital surround sound
and includes a headphone connection for discreet music
listening.


The drive should be available in November for a an estimated retail price of
