Systems, Inc., today announced that Television Broadcasts Limited (TVB)
Hong Kong, one of the largest producers of Chinese language programming in the
world, has made a significant installation of Pinnacle Systems broadcast
equipment in its new broadcast center at TVB City. Interoperability between
these systems has enabled TVB to streamline its editing, graphics and playout
operations.
Nineteen FX Deko II systems are delivering stunning multi-channel effects
along with 22 Pinnacle Deko2200 2D character generators and 11 DVEXCEL systems.
Twenty DekoCast graphics control systems are being used to provide fully
automated on air information by extracting live data and live index from the
server. In addition, 30 Lightning 1000 image management systems and one unit of
Thunder LT are in use. TVB will be using the seven MediaStream 1600 server for
playout of Programs and Commercials utilizing a completely redundant server
configuration. Pinnacle Systems ConnectPlus 1000 units will be used to transfer
material from a remote location to the Central Playout Center utilizing a WAN
infrastructure.
Garry Kum, Manager, Technical Services & Development Dept, Engineering
Division of TVB Ltd. said, "Pinnacle Systems MediaStream Servers offer
scalability, reliability and especially modularity, which allows us to expand
the system in tandem with TVB's growth."
Alice Y W Wong, Graphic Art Director, Art Subdivision, TVB Ltd said, "As it
supports UNICODE multi-language environment, it allows the flexibility of using
Chinese or English fonts easily. The FX Deko II also offers the Creative team
more flexibility as they can create moving graphics and text through 3D space in
real time."
TVB celebrated its 35th Anniversary last November. It operates two local
free-to-air programme channels in Hong Kong. TVB Jade and TVB Pearl offer 14,000
hours of programming to 2.1 million homes in Hong Kong. TVB also operates TVBI,
which licenses and distributes Chinese programmes to more than 30 countries
through its overseas pay-TV platforms.
Mr. Leung Wai Boon, Deputy Controller, Engineering Department of TVB, said,
"The new facility provided us with the opportunity to acquire new technology
that would help us enhance our service as well as cope with future development.
The shift has also enabled TVB to progress quicker on its road to
digitalisation. We are familiar with Pinnacle products as we worked with the
first generation Dekos that were purchased seven years ago. As for Ideal Systems
(a product distribution and systems integration company), we have worked with
them for a very long time. Our relationship with Ideal is more of a Business
Partner rather than a vendor. That works well for both parties."
