According to an article on Forbes.com both TDK and Pioneer are in a joint venture to develop a technology to increase the recording speed of DVD discs to about four or five times of the current normal speed.
The move is aimed at increasing the competitiveness of the two firms' DVD equipment -- compatible with the RW (rewritable) standard -- to battle the more popular RAM-standard devices made by Matsushita Electric Industrial Co Ltd and others, the newspaper said. |
Pioneer and TDK hope to commercialise products for the booming DVD recorder market with four to five times current recording speeds by 2004, it said.
