Pioneer denies it will outsource production of its DVD burners

Digitimes
reports that there were rumors indicating that Pioneer would out
source the production of its DVD burners. Apparently the rumors said that
Pioneer would not have the sufficient production capacity for pick up heads and
DVD burners. However the Taiwanese subsidary of Pioneer said that the company
has the required factories in China.

Lite-On
IT, BenQ and Asustek Computer are the only Taiwanese ODD makers able to
compete for OEM orders for DVD burners from Pioneer, Sony and other
Japanese brands, according to the sources. Asustek has a close business
relationship with Pioneer, which is a significant advantage for the
company if a competition for Pioneer's OEM orders ensues, the sources
added.

Many Japanse and European companies are already in joint ventures
with either Korean or Taiwanese companies which are able to produce at lower
costs.
