Pioneer in talks with TEAC to possibly join forces

According
to this article over at Bloomberg, it seems that Pioneer, has made
public that an alliance with TEAC is possible. TEAC shares surged over 20% on
the news.

Nothing has been finalized on the plan to ally with
Teac, said Akira Muneto, a Pioneer spokesman, responding to a report by
Japanese broadcaster NHK. It is "unlikely'' that a decision will be made
by tomorrow, when Pioneer announces a mid-term business plan after naming
new management, Muneto said.

Tokyo-based Pioneer is expecting a second year of
losses as rival products made in China, Taiwan and elsewhere in Asia have
pushed down prices for its televisions and DVD recorders. Pioneer on Oct.
21 forecast a 24 billion yen loss in the year ending March 31. That
compares with an earlier estimate of 1 billion yen profit and 8.79 billion
yen loss a year ago.

Pioneer hopes that Teac's technology will be useful in the development
of better products according to the Japanese NHK report.
