According
to this article over at Bloomberg, it seems that Pioneer, has made
public that an alliance with TEAC is possible. TEAC shares surged over 20% on
the news.
Nothing has been finalized on the plan to ally with
Teac, said Akira Muneto, a Pioneer spokesman, responding to a report by
Japanese broadcaster NHK. It is "unlikely'' that a decision will be made
by tomorrow, when Pioneer announces a mid-term business plan after naming
new management, Muneto said.
Tokyo-based Pioneer is expecting a second year of
losses as rival products made in China, Taiwan and elsewhere in Asia have
pushed down prices for its televisions and DVD recorders. Pioneer on Oct.
21 forecast a 24 billion yen loss in the year ending March 31. That
compares with an earlier estimate of 1 billion yen profit and 8.79 billion
yen loss a year ago.

Pioneer hopes that Teac's technology will be useful in the development
of better products according to the Japanese NHK report.
