Pioneer passes 5-million unit cumulative sales of DVD writers

In a press release found on the
Pioneer site, the company claims to be the number one manufacturer of DVD
drives. The company which is also a founding member of the DVD-Forum
(developers of DVD-RW) is trying hard to prove that in the current DVD
recordable format war it is on the winning side. The company has shipped over 5
million DVD recorders at the beginning of September, the company's first
DVD recorder was shipped around 1999.

In 2003,
the DVD writer global market will expand sharply toward 20 million units,
in accordance with Pioneer survey. Pioneer expects to ship 5 million units
in the same year (or 25% of the world market). In response to this
significant increase in shipment, the company has continued to strengthen
its production facilities for DVD writers both in Japan and China. Thanks
to these efforts, its total monthly production capacity has reached 1
million units.

The latest model of Pioneer, the A)6 writes both recordable formats (+ and -)
and is a big seller. More information can be found on the Pioneer
website
, note that numbers provided are mentioned at the bottom of
the page. Discuss DVD recorder in our DVD Recording Hardware Forum.
