Earlier today we reported about a research that tested the compabitibility of DVD-R and DVD+R. This research was performed by Intellikey and it seems that the company has done two test with both different outcomes. The research that was done by Pioneer gives different results and gives the DVD minus format a slight advantage because it's DVD-RW discs are 5% more compatible then it's plus opposite.
This is strange because the other research - not funded by Pioneer - gave clearly different figures with the DVD plus format clearly on the advantage. This is of course strange and smells like manipulation of the research funded by Pioneer.
"We agree with Intellikey that consumers have been struggling with the decision to purchase DVD-R/RW or +R/+RW recordable devices because of confusion about the recorded discs' playback compatibility. The nature of recordable DVD technology makes it difficult to draw a clear conclusion about compatibility -- the variation between the two Intellikey test results clearly illustrates this. It is not in the consumer's best interest to present one set of results as conclusive evidence," said Andy Parsons, senior vice president for the Business Solutions Division of Pioneer Electronics (USA) Inc. |
Pioneer's belief is that the support of the DVD Forum -- the organization that originally brought DVD to market -- will be the overriding factor in the success of any of the recordable DVD formats.
Altough it smells like manipulation the tests performed for Pioneer by Intellikey seems to be more reliable, as there were more tests performed and more devices and media used. However reading both tests, there is still no clear winner. Read the entire article here.
There is also still a discusion on our forum on what format is the best. You can join the discussion here.
