A few days ago we reported about PlayFair, an utility that could decrypt the iTunes AAC files as they are distributed by Apple. Since the software decrypts the protection of the files it was only a matter of time until Apple would ask for it to be removed. And as expected the project has been removed from the open source project management site SourceForge. According to the company the software is in breach with a section of the DCMA and a breach of this law is - of course - against the SourceForge policy.
This is another hit for fair use software developer Jon Johansen who was also responsible for the DeCSS software that is widely used on Linux systems to play DVD movies and on the Windows platform to make personal backups from DVDs.
