Plextor Europe officially announces: PlexWriter 48/24/48A

Plextor has send us a press release of their latest drive the PlexWriter 48/24/48A. While other sites tend to post incorrect and inaccurate information we can now tell you the exact features of this latest Plextor model.

Plextor seems to be clearly focussing on the quality of the written disc (PoweRec, VariRec, Adapted "writing power" temperature dependable) and the accesstime of less then 65 ms seems to be really really fast. Also support for more media seems something that might be something that is appreciated by a lot of consumers, as for now Plextors were pretty picky with media:

  • Fastest accestime ever: < 65 ms
  • 2 year warranty
  • Ultra fast rewriting: 24x
  • Write high quality audio CDs using 48x CAV technology
  • Available in black and white edition
  • Burnproof
  • Easy firmware upgrades with FlashROM
  • PoweRec to determine the right writing speed
  • VariRec
  • Mount Rainier ready
  • 4 MB buffer
  • 5 highspeed CD-Rs in retail package
  • 1 HS-RW disc in retail package
  • Extensive support for CD-R and CD-R/W media

  • The black tray should prevent C1 errors, increasing the write quality
  • Adapted "writing power" temperature dependable
  • Good hotline support
  • Special 'On-Site Collect & Return service" for damaged drives
  • Extensive software package (retail only)Nero, InCD and PlexTools.

Plextor continues with: altough the speed is able to read at 48x, the default setting will be 40x. This is because the drive its lifecycle will be decreased at 48x reading speed. Also the level of noise is higher at 48x speed then at 40x speed.

Besides that, CDs with scratches or bad quality can explode at 48x speed. (9.600 RPM) To prevent this, the PlexWriter 48/24/48A has an extra strong front bezel. An user who wants to read at 48x can still do this by using the function SpeedRead which is available by software and hardware.

The price of all this will be 149 EURO excl. VAT.
