Recently we reported that the parent company of Plextor pulled the brand name for consumer CD and DVD burners, however Koba, an user on our forums is reporting that another Japanese website reports that Plextor will not entirely quit business but will mainly downsize it. Development of new products and sales to consumers in retail will continue.
The company will reduce it's optical storage division to 10% of it's peak but will continue to be in the optical storage business. User Koba also reports that Plextor Japan is reporting that the following Plextor drives are out of production:
- PX-751A
- PX-755A
- PX-755SA
- PX-760A
- PX-760SA
- PX-750A
According to a Plextor representative the company will continue to develop new products, however this will be mainly focused at professional equipment. Plextor plans to release new products for the retail market too.
Unfortunately there is no official response from Plextor or Shinanokenshi, however PPeter, another user on our forums has received a reply from a Plextor Europe employee that the company will continue to sell in the consumer market using the Plextor brand name.
