When I checked my e-mail this morning I was
pleasantly surprised when I saw a press release send to me by Plextor
Europe. Plextor has announced their latest
dual format DVD-recorder, the PX-708A/UF, which will be the first
drive supporting 8x DVD+R! This means that you will be able to
burn 4.7GB of data in less than 10 minutes!
Besides the high DVD-recording speeds, the new
Plextor drive will also support 40x CD-R recording and 24x CD-RW recording,
making it an ideal drive to do all your burning needs with:

Thanks to the new PX-708A and PX-708UF Plextor
DVD writers you can now forget all about the format war. Both drives can
indeed be used with both DVD plus and DVD minus formats.
Both DVD recorders can also burn a full DVD disc of 4.7GB in less than ten minutes! Back-ups of
your favourite DVDs, your CD collection, photo albums or other data are
now made in next to no time at all. The recorders write in DVD plus format
at a top speed of 8x and rewrite at 4x.
For DVD minus format these speeds are 4x and
2x respectively. DVD- ROMs are read at
12x, and the drives can obviously also be used
with CDs. These discs are written and read at 40x with
rewriting at 24x.
The hardware
The PX-708A has an
E-IDE (ATAPI) interface and is available with a white or black front. The
retail version consists of: the PX-708A, 1 E-IDE (ATAPI) cable and a full
manual in 16 languages.
An extensive
software package for processing videos,
photographs, audio and data is also supplied as standard: Ahead
Nero (CD/DVD Mastering software), Ahead InCD (Packet Writing software),
Pinnacle Studio 8 (Video Editing and Authoring
software), Cyberlink Power
DVD (DVD Player software) and PlexTools Professional (CD/DVD
Utility software).
The external version
PX-708UF has a USB 2.0 and an IEEE 1394 (FireWire) interface. The retail
version consists of: the PX-708UF, 1 USB interface cable, 1 IEEE 1394
(FireWire) interface cable, a manual in 16 languages and the same full
software package as the internal version. |
The Plextor PX-708A/UF will use Buffer Underrun
Proof technology (for CDs), Lossless Linking (for DVD+R/RW) and Zero Link
technology (for DVD-R/RW). The PX-708A and the PX-708UF drives will be available
from the end of August and the end of September 2003 respectively.
Last but certainly not least the drives come at a
very attractive price, 275 EUR (excl. VAT) for the PX-708A and 349 EUR (excl.
