From several people we received mails that rumors go that Plextor would start the production of SCSI drives again. Of course we contacted Plextor to see if the rumor is true and if we could get more information.
The issue is intresting as Plextor noted several times that there was only a small demand for SCSI drives. Mr Peeters, Marketing manager of Plextor Europe responds:
The rumor is right: Plextor will be releasing a new, faster CD-RW drive utilizing the SCSI interface next year. The specifications of the drives are not yet known but Plextor will issue an official press release when they are. As said, the new product will be a CD-R/W drive and it is for now not known if Plextor will use the SCSI interface in other to announce products. |
Plextor is bringing SCSI back in their product line because after the announcement of the End of Life of the current 12/10/32 SCSI drive a lot of people responded with e-mails and phone calls who have standardized on the SCSI interface and who seem to have trouble to switch to another interface on short term. Plextor still has the view that the market for SCSI drives is limited, but sees the upcoming SCSI drive as a service to their loyal customers who buy Plextor SCSI drives for many years now.
A lot of users on this site have been clear, they wanted SCSI drives, and it seems that Plextor is now eventually listening to their customers and brings Plextor SCSI drives back to life.
