Plextor wins 2001 product of the year from PC World

PC World magazine, the world's largest computer publication, named Plextor's PlexWriter 16/10/40A CD/RW Drive as `Product of the Year' for 2001.

PC World also honored the PlexWriter 16/10/40A with a 2001 World Class Award for Best CD-RW Drive. In selecting the PlexWriter drive from hundreds of the world's most technologically advanced products, PC World noted that Plextor's drives are 'rock-solid performers' and `great values.'

Winning PC World's top annual prize is a huge milestone for the highly acclaimed PlexWriter platform,'' said Howard Wing, vice president of sales and marketing for Plextor. ``In addition to the `Product of the Year' award, this is the third year in a row that Plextor has received a World Class Award for best product in the CD-RW category. The PlexWriter also has appeared consistently in PC World's monthly `Top Ten CD-RW drives' chart for several years running. We believe these accolades speak volumes about the PlexWriter's dependable quality and reliability and we are grateful for this prestigious award from PC World.

In the World Class Awards article in the July 2001 issue, PC World wrote: ``A humble CD-RW drive as PC World's Product of the Year? Absolutely. This was a year in which many technologies overpromised and underperformed, but CD-RW drives quietly became essential, affordable components for everything from entertainment (mix your own audio CDs) to workaday computing tasks (data backups). Our Product of the Year isn't the cheapest CD-RW out there--just one of the fastest and most reliable. Plextor's drives have always been rock-solid performers and great values, and this $247 PlexWriter is no exception.
