Pressplay has been launched

PressPlay, called an Online Music Subscription Service has been launched today offering songs of Sony Music Entertainment, Universal Music Group and EMI Recorded Music and some other smaller labels.

They will be featuring several monthly plans:

  • 14-day Free Trial: 200 streams, 20 downloads (for a limited time only)
  • Basic Plan - $9.95: 300 streams, 30 downloads
  • Silver Plan - $14.95: 500 streams, 50 downloads, 10 burns
  • Gold Plan - $19.95: 750 streams, 75 downloads, 15 burns
  • Platinum Plan - $24.95: 1000 streams, 100 downloads, 20 burns

Pressplay will be using the Windows Media format to supply the music to their subscribers, enabling them to copy protect the downloaded songs. Roxio has delivered a burning feature and the service is available trough Yahoo and MSN.

This is called the future of music distribution, and it could be, let's be honest, 100 downloads, 20 burns for $24.95 isn't that expensive if you are already buying CD's right now. But for those thousands of users that have found KaZaA and its friends it's still way too much.

I just tried to checkout the 14 days free trial, but as expected I needed a creditcard, and it just happens to be that I don't have one. Ayone else already subscribed ?
