Prices for CD-Recordable discs continue to rise in 4Q

DigiTimes reports that prices for CD-Recordable media will continue to rise in the fourth
quarter of this year. Three major optical storage disc makers in Taiwan,
Ritek, CMC Magnetics and Prodisc Technology, have all raised their CD-R disc
prices starting in October:

While CMC and Prodisc said they have raised their CD-R prices by
5% to about US$ 0.23, CMC also confirmed higher CD-R quotes of between US$
0.22 and US$ 0.23.

In the second quarter, all the
companies raised their CD-R disc prices by about 10% from the first
quarter. The continuous price hike has been a result of strong demand and
suspension of capacity expansion, and the makers have enjoyed high
utilization rates, according to the
companies.
