Prodisc to set up new DVD disc factory in northern Taiwan

Conductor reports us that Taiwanese optical media manufacturer Prodisc has signed an agreement to purchase 2.3 hectares of land in northern Taiwan. Prodisc will use the land to build a new factory dedicated to DVDR disc production, boosting the company's monthly capacity to 45 million DVDR discs in the middle of 2004:

Prodisc Technology, Taiwan's third-largest optical disc producer, yesterday signed an agreement to purchase 2.3 hectares of land in the Hwaya Technology Park in Linkou, Taoyuan County for NT$ 730 million.

First-phase development will be completed in August and planning for the second phase will begin at year-end, Prodisc chairman Lin Ming-Fa said.

Prodisc is expanding the monthly capacity of its existing DVD-R/+R disc production lines from 20 million discs last month to between 35 million and 38 million discs in late March and further to between 40 million and 45 million discs in the middle of this year, Lin added.
