Quality patched LiteOn 1693S firmware for 1673S, 1693S, 720A, 800A (KC1B)

We have some good news for those LiteOn fans out there this morning. It seems that Staff Member and Moderator C0deKing, has posted a thread in our Club CD Freaks Forum, announcing a new patched firmware for LiteOn 1673S, 1693S, 720A and 800A users. The purpose of this patch is for increased writing quality when using most +R media.  In the snippet from the thread below, we can read what has been done to achieve this goal.

What is it?

The aim of this firmware is to produce lower PIFs, sometimes at the expense of slightly higher PIEs. It uses a WOPC (Walking Optimum Power Control) technique that adjusts the OPC at fixed points during the burn.

It's already crossflash patched for 1673S users, has a faster LED flash rate when burning and has the following read speed changes:

  • +R/-R = 16x
  • ROM/9 = 12x
  • +/-R9 = 8x

Notes

  • This firmware is experimental and is not supported or condoned by the drive manufacturer. You will void your drive's warranty if you use this firmware.
  • Remember this patch affects +R media only.
  • Some PIF spikes may occur at the recalibrate points, but like the NEC drives, these seldom cause a problem.
  • The next release will also support +RW and +R9 in the quality patch, so stay tuned to this thread.

Well, there you have it! So why not head on over to this very popular thread in our LiteOn DVD Burner / Sony DVD Burner sub forum and check out the scans and comments there?
