Quanta Storage to focus on slim DVD burners

GristyMcFisty used our news submit to tell us Quanta Storage, in Taiwan, will shift its focus from half-height (H/H) DVD burners to slim DVD burners, according to company president CC Chien.

Quanta Storage began developing H/H DVD burners in 2003. After experiencing increased price competition for H/H DVD burners and slim combos, the company has decided to instead focus on slim DVD burners, Chien indicated. At the meeting, shareholders approved the distribution of a dividend of NT per share, NT in stock and NT in cash, for 2003.

Well, we certainly can see why someone would like to bail out of the half-height drive business. There cannot possibly be that much margin there.
