RIAA targets another 963 alleged file-traders

The recording industry of America (RIAA) has gone on another lawsuit rampage this week filing around 963 lawsuits, all targeting various individuals who were illegally sharing songs on P2P networks. In the suits some 750 people remain unnamed while 213 named the individuals as they hadn't made any remuneration for their music sharing acts as the deadline to settle had passed. Since the RIAA started filing lawsuits against music shares back in September 2003 a total of 6200 have been filed against music swappers.

Earlier this week the RIAA settled its copyright
infringement case against Spain 's MP3 selling service Puretunes for $10.5 million dollars.

The Recording Industry Ass. of America (RIAA) this week Legalfiled almost 1000 lawsuits this week, all of them accusing individuals of sharing unauthorised copies of songs on P2P networks. Some 750 people are unnamed, with 213 more citing alleged copyright infringers' names. The latter had all received demands to cease their activities and make some remuneration for their acts, but in each case the deadline for settlement had passed, the RIAA said.

To date, the RIAA has issued over 6200 lawsuits against named and unnamed individuals, most recently 762 complaints filed late September. The first lawsuits were sent out in September 2003. Earlier this week, it emerged that the RIAA had settled its copyright infringement action against the operators of Spain-based MP3 seller Puretunes.com for a total of $10.5m.

Looks like the RIAA will be ruining a lot of peoples Christmas holidays this year, I guess it doesn't bother the RIAA as long as they get their money.
